Description |
The Commencement date is included in the School Calendar. Before the Commencement, VP-Instruction needs to do the following:
1. Get a graduation student list from the 12th grade teachers (not all 12th grade students can graduate) and student list from 9th and 6th grade teachers. Print them in a brochure format. 2. Print invitation brochure and send to 6th, 9th and 12th grade students' parents. 3. Notify the MPR's Culture class teachers to vacate the room. 4. Locate two MCs and discuss with them the Commencement program procedures. 5. Have someone purchase one bouquet of Carnation for each graduating student and each teacher attending the Commencement. 6. Print the diploma, stamped with BCS seal and signed by the Principal. 7. Notify the 12th grade teachers to have each graduating student prepared to give a short speech. 8. Remind the Principal and Curriculum Deans to attend the Commencement. 9. Have the custodian setup tables and benches. 10. Have Piedmont campus manager set up the speaker system. 11. Update the BCS Graduation banner by an outside sign shop (i.e., change the word 'nth' graduation each year) 12. Have some photographer taken pictures. 13. If an outside guest is invited to deliver a speech, make the contact as early as possible. 14. Locate the graduation music cassette tape.
During the Commencement, play the music when the graduating students walk in and sit in the front row.
Each 6th and 9th grade class sends a rep to receive the diploma from the Principal. Each individual graduating student receives a diploma and a bouquet of flower from the Principal, gives the flower to his/her parent and delivers a short speech. A bouquet of flower is also presented to each 6th, 9th and 12th grade teacher. |

Recommend. |
Piedmont's MPR is not the best place to have a commencement. Students usually make noise towards the end of the ceremony, partly due to the fact that the speaker system is not loud enough. One workaround is to have students sit AROUND the administrators. Another suggestion is to use the Berryessa Community Center.
Inviting an outside guest or a BCS founder to deliver a speech has its merit too.
Formal apparel is recommended for school administrators. |
