Re-evaluate Point System, Newsletter Jan 29, 2000

Dear School Parents,

Welcome back on this first day of Spring Semester, 2000. During the Fall Semester, we experimented the Point System for about two months. We have found many positive and negative results caused by its execution. The Board finally decided to put Point System on hold for re-evaluation with inputs of whole school. Today, I like to share with you the final decision of the Board regarding how the Point System will be.

After taking all inputs and suggestions from whole school survey, the Board decided to make following change regarding the Point System.

  1. The school will continue to use Point System to get parents' long term and short term involvement. However, there are significant changes to the existing plan. The most notable ones are listed as following:
  1. Change the requirement of earning points to voluntary work credits. (No more penalty to you if you do not help school in terms of fee or registration privilege)
  2. Continue to improve school task listing process for parents to sign up and assign points for every school tasks for parents to earn. (School will allocate job in more task oriented and less on counting hours)
  3. Allow parents to work for and accumulate as many points as possible.
  4. School will recognize parent's past contribution and also award for their future contribution.
  5. The new incentive system will not tie with registration process.
  1. Continue to expand the Point System Committee into a Parent Support Committee with the following missions:
  1. The new Parent Support Committee will work with the Board to define more detail guidelines on how to get short and long term parent involvement and how to recognize parent's contribution.
  2. To define and improve the processes on meeting man power requirement of school.
  3. To provide immediate help to all departments and continue to recruit volunteers from our parents.

BCS has a long and proud history of total volunteer spirits that lead to its success today. The Board continue to value this spirit highly. I like to encourage all parents continue to provide more long term and short commitment to school. So that next 20 years of BCS can be better than the first 20 years of BCS.

There will be a whole school parent's meeting to give you more details on this topic on Feb 19, 9:30 A.M. at MPR on Morrill campus. Please plan to attend this meeting. It is because we want to give everyone as much time as possible to ask questions so that we plan only one meeting. Parents of Sierramont and Piedmont campus please come over to Morrill campus. And please continue to read newsletter for more announcement. Thank you for your support.
