As the crowd cheers, Santa Claus appears...

BCS has a special class in which students learn to sing fun Cantonese songs.  This music class is taught by Susanna Wan who has been teaching since 1992.

Students from Morrill in Cantonese grades kindergarten thru third, takes part in this enjoyable class every Saturday.  Each lesson is half and hour long with about 20 students in each class.

In December, a special event is held called the Talent Show.  It is a well rehearsed annual event for the students to perform their wonderful talents.  The events in the show usually include students singing in Chinese or playing an instrument like the keyboard.  The teachers also take part in the Talent Show as well.  All the Cantonese teachers sing some famous Chinese songs together.  Later in the show, Santa Claus arrives from the North Pole and brings gifts for all the performers.  He thanks everyone for coming and tells the students what a great job they did.

In the earlier years, this event was held in the small Morrill library.  There was an  audience of about 100 and only about 30 students performing.  However, this event has really changed over the years.  Now, this is one of the biggest Cantonese events during the year!  Now, it is held in Morrill's Multi-Purpose Room.  Over 800 students and adults watch this performance, with about 400 students performing!

Every year, parent volunteers take time out of their busy Christmas schedule to help make the Talent Show possible.  Without their effort, this event would not be as big as it is now.

You might wonder why this event was first started.  Right?  Well, in 1992, Susanna Wan decided to hold an event that would give Chinese people an opportunity to perform.  She thought that it would help those who were shy, do something they enjoyed, in front of an audience.  Also, she realized it would help the students experience the importance of performing, which would help their future.  Because of the outcome, this event still continues annually.
