1999 Teachers' Camp

The Association of Northern California Chinese Schools provides and augments teachers with a series of seminar and training sessions. The most notable is the Teacher's Camp held every summer. In 1999, Teacher Camp was organized and hosted by Berryessa Chinese School. Former Principals, Fook Wong, Albert Ko and James Hsu started to organize the program and the coordination with the participants from Taiwan in late 1998. Three special guest speakers teachers were invited from Taiwan: Chan Chuen Chi, Liu Chi Yuen and Li Chun Sha. All three guests were experienced teachers specializes in composition, parent-child psychology through participation . Throughout the 5 day's program Ms. Li, Taiwan's National teacher specializes in colloquial and composition provided needed forum in these areas.

Since the speakers are from Taiwan, Fook Wong prepared a special seminar on Cantonese pronunciation, a review for Cantonese speaking Teachers. The main emphasis is on the essence and prospective of pronunication through different approaches. C.M. Yung, Dean of Cantonese Instruction of BCS, provided a seminar on the review of the results of SATII Chinese test.

Over the months of preparation, with tremendous help from BCS staff and teachers, over 250 participants left with valuable information and insights on further the task of teaching Chinese to our kids.
