囉吔 Mamak Rojak囉吔 Mamak Rojak was a fruit salad prepared by food vendors on
the street. It used 凉粉/大菜糕 as a base and added in many kinds
of sliced vegetable, fried dough fritters, bean curds, boiled
potatoes, prawn fritters, hard boiled eggs, bean sprouts and
cucumber mixed with a thick, spicy peanut sauce. It was perfect
for the hot climate.
Mamak is a term used to describe Tamil-speaking Indians in Malaysia with Islam as their faith. Some of them operated mobile food stalls serving Rojak. It was acceptable to use this term in Malaysia when referring to food but shouldn't be used elsewhere. |

IceeMalaysian icee was also served with 凉粉 on the bottom but with slush ice and red beans on the higher layers. On top was ice cream. To enjoy this dessert, one had to mix the slush ice with the red beans and suck it with a straw so the ice cream would drop below the rim of the glass container before melting :-) |
