Taman Negara

I flew over Taman Negara, a National Park in Malaysia and one of the oldest rain forest in the world.   To go to the park from Kuala Lumpur, one would take a three-hour road trip to Kampung Kuala Tembeling at the confluence of two rivers - the Jelai River and the Pahang River as shown in the photo.   From there, it will be another three-hour ride in a longboat up the river to the entrance Kuala Tahan.   The closest larger town Kuala Lipis is about 37 miles (60 KM) away.

Taman Negara is one of the oldest primary rainforest in the world.   It is also the most popular National Park in central Malaysia.   Some of the touring activities included trekking through the jungle; walking over the 0.3 mile long suspension bridge between high treetops; observing wild lives in day and at night; and visiting the Orang Asli - the indigenous people who dwell in the forest of Peninsular Malaysia.   The name in Malay means, literally, "the original people".

This picture was taken at 36,000 feet above the entrance to Taman Negara, about 75 air-miles from the capital in Kuala Lumpur.   The GPS coordinates and the elevation are:

N04°01.459'

E102°23.454'

36,000 feet
